I believe it may be the first one of the New Year. They are some of my favorite walks through the forest events. 2022's first Owl Prowl is scheduled for Saturday, January 22, 2022.

We are so lucky to live in an area with so much to do outside no matter what the season. We are also lucky to have so many great groups and organizations that put together exciting events that allow us to explore the Hudson Valley's forests for fun.

The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum is one group that has events all year long and they hold them for their members as well as the general public. Being a member gets you access to tickets and reservations before non-members which is sometimes necessary because their events fill up. The Owl Prowl is one of those kinds of events.

Imagine walking around in the forest at night listening for the sound of a Hudson Valley Owl. Then hoping once you hear him you can spot him in a nearby tree. That's what you'll be doing that night from 7 PM to 9 PM. Member registration started today (January 3, 2022) if it doesn't fill up non-members can start registering on January 10, 2022.

Go Looking For Owls

Environmental Educator Carl Heitmuller will lead the night's event which will start at the Wildlife Education Center at 25 Boulevard in Cornwall-on-Hudson. A portion of the evening is held outdoors so dress for the weather and feel free to bring a camping chair.  There is a fee for this event.

LOOK: Stunning animal photos from around the world

From grazing Tibetan antelope to migrating monarch butterflies, these 50 photos of wildlife around the world capture the staggering grace of the animal kingdom. The forthcoming gallery runs sequentially from air to land to water, and focuses on birds, land mammals, aquatic life, and insects as they work in pairs or groups, or sometimes all on their own.
