Monticello police with assistance from the New York State Police and Sullivan County District Attorney Office are currently investigating the shooting of a 54-year-old Monticello man.

On Sunday around 10 p.m., a Monticello officer who was investigating an unrelated complaint found the man lying near the front entrance of the Stewart’s convenience store on Forestburg Road in the Village of Monticello.

The victim was shot multiple times on a pathway between the Stewart’s store and the Evergreen Drive housing complex, police say. After being shot, the unnamed victim was able make his way to the front of the store before collapsing.

Monticello police administered first aid to the victim until paramedics arrived on scene. The man was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.
