Koala Bears Apprently Need “The Talk” as STD’s Are on the Rise
In a news story this morning, it was made known that apparently Koala bears in Australia are having issues with STD's. Are you thinking the same thing we are? How can Koala bears get Chlamyia?
According to a study published in the journal "Peer J" it is so common in these marsupials that some of the Koala populations are actually at a 100 percent infection rate.
Not only is the disease spread through sexual contact, it is also commonly spread to the infants from their time spent in their mother's pouch. The study mentions that antibiotics have been used to bring the infection rate down, but its use has been interferring with the Koalas ability to digest their main food source, eucalyptus.
What do you think can be done to help reduce the spread of STD's in Koala bears?
