A home remodel led to “just a bag” of waste being illegally dumped on the side of the road in the Hudson Valley.

Last month, officers from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation found a large pile of solid waste illegally dumped on the side of the road in the Town of Southeast.

The garbage bags contained tiles, drywall, cardboard, and other demolition debris, materials consistent with the renovation of a bathroom, officials say.

Environmental Conservation Officers, Anthony Drahms and Dustin Dainack, found evidence that the construction materials were purchased by a person from Westchester County.

The officers contacted the homeowner who said a bathroom was remodeled by contractor and a local handy man. A waste hauler was hired to remove the debris.

On Nov. 4, ECOs Drahms and Geoffrey Younglove conducted interviews that led them to the contractor. The unnamed man allegedly told officers he dumped, "just a bag," of garbage at the site.

The man received a ticket for illegal disposal of solid waste returnable to Town of Southeast Court, and offered to clean up the waste immediately.
