John Witkiewicz, 60, a resident of Wappinger Falls since 1987 and previously of Yonkers and Olsztyn, Poland, died on March 28, 2017 at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Born on May 19, 1956 in Olsztyn, Poland, John was the son of the late Jozef and Maria (Plesczak) Witkiewicz.

John worked for Elmsford Sheet Metal in Cortlandt Manor as the Supervisor of Maintenance for the last 8 years. He was also the owner and operator of Transport Automatic Transmissions in Yonkers from 1981 – 2004. He was a parishioner of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church in Lagrangeville. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. John was always lending a hand to his family, friends and neighbors, and enjoyed spending countless hours tinkering around in his garage. Above all else, he was the most loving husband, father, and Dzia Dzia.

On May 10, 1980 in Yonkers, John married the love of his life, Maureen Broughton who survives at home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, John David Witkiewicz and his wife Kelsey of Denver, CO, Cori Witkiewicz of Wappinger Falls, Melissa Melilli and her husband C.J. of Millbrook, and Jamie Rendon and her husband Raul of Tampa, FL; his grandchildren, Henry, Wendell, Vincent, Charlotte, Avery, and Samuel; his siblings, Edek Witkiewicz and his wife Jagoda , Joseph Witkiewicz and his wife Halina, and Kathryn Bogdan and her husband Matthew; his sister-in-law, Anna Witkiewicz; and his beloved dog and best friend, Tyson. He was predeceased by his brother, Anthony Witkiewicz.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 10am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville. Private burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Yonkers at a later date.
