Hudson Valley Woman Indicted For Murdering Mother

A Hudson Valley woman was officially indicted with the brutal murder of her mother.
Tuesday, an Ulster County Jury indicted 27-year-old Sarra Gilbert, of Ellenville. She is expected to be arraigned in Ulster County Court later this week.

July 23, Ellenville Police received a call from Sherre Gilbert asking authorities to check on her mother, Mari Gilbert, at Sarra Gilbert’s Apartment.

When officers arrived at the apartment, located at 9 Warren Street, Mari’s car was spotted in the driveway. Police then tried to make contact with anyone inside the apartment, but didn’t get an answer. Police soon spotted what appeared to be a body on the floor.

Police entered the building and allegedly found Sarra in the kitchen area with blood on her clothing. Mari was found dead on the floor.

An autopsy on Mari Gilbert, 52, determined the official cause of death was listed as homicide, due to multiple stab wounds to her torso, along with other injuries.

Sarra was detained by police and later charged with second-degree murder.

Police recovered what they believe to be the murder weapon.

Sarra Gilbert remains in Ulster County Jail pending her arraignment on the indictment.
