Following an investigation it was determined that a man who police initially thought stabbed himself, was actually stabbed by his girlfriend with carving knife.

On Saturday. State Police from Ellenville responded to Ellenville Regional Hospital for a reported victim of a stab wound.

At first it appeared that the victim accidentally stabbed himself. But, after conducting neighborhood interviews at the victim’s home the Town of Rochester, it was determined 21-year-old Maria L. Murphy of Ellenville was stabber, police say.

The victim was allegedly assaulted by his girlfriend, Murphy, with a carving knife after a verbal fight that escalated quickly.

On Sunday, Murphy was charged with second-degree assault, a felony. She was arraigned in front of Town of Rochester Town Court and who released Murphy on her own recognizance. She is due back in Court on Wednesday.
