The 2017 results are in and several Hudson Valley towns have been named as being some of the best places to live in New York state.

Niche.com breaks it down for us every year, using criteria like crime rates, housing trends, school quality and employment numbers. These factors lead to an overall score for each town and even some specific neighborhoods. Each town was then given a letter grade based on their score.

Near the top of the list, towns like New Paltz, Tarrytown and Croton-on-Hudson scored an A+. Mostly Westchester towns were ranked in the A range. The Town of Poughkeepsie landed an A-, but the city didn't fare as well unfortunately.

On the flipside, places like the City of Poughkeepsie and Newburgh saw the lowest scores and were were graded as C+. Middletown finished just ahead at a B-. Hey there's nothing wrong with that, I would have been perfectly happy with either of those scores in school.
