Hudson Valley School Placed on Lockdown After Report of Gun

A Hudson Valley school was placed on lockdown after a student reported seeing a man with a gun inside the school.

On Tuesday, a Chester Academy student reported a man with a gun inside the school. There were no reports of shots fired and only the one student reported seeing the man with the gun, according to Town of Chester Police Department.

Town of Chester police and New York State police responded to the secondary school. As a precaution, Chester Academy was placed on lockdown as law enforcement perform a security sweep, police say.

Around 4 p.m., the school began releasing students. Buses were first at Chester Academy and then proceed to Chester Elementary for pickup before dropping students off.

According to police, after looking at surveillance video they found no credible evidence that supported a man was inside the school with a gun.

"A thorough investigation was completed with the assistance of MANY surrounding police agencies and we have found no credible evidence to support the alleged threat," Town of Chester Police Department wrote on Facebook.

No injuries were reported.
