This retailer won't dispense more than a seven-day supply of some opioid prescriptions.

Walmart announced on Monday, May 7 that it will restrict the supply of opioid prescriptions it fills. This is Walmart's effort to battle the growing opioid epidemic in the U.S. The supply limit will start in the next 60 days. CBS News also reports that the drugs would be limited to 50 morphine milligrams a day.

Walmart also said that from January 1, 2020, and forward, they will require e-prescriptions for controlled substance prescriptions. MSN reports that Walmart said e-prescriptions cannot be changed or copied like regular prescriptions and are less likely to have errors.

This new restriction will apply to all Walmart and Sam's Club pharmacies.

The article states that the Center For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that over 100 Americans die every day from opioid overdose.
