State Police from the Hudson Valley say they helped save a suicidal woman’s life on a bridge.

On Saturday, State Police from Livingston were dispatched by Columbia County 911 for a reported disturbance that occurred on Route 9 by the Stockport Bridge. Troopers located the vehicle believed to be involved in the reported incident at the Cumberland Farms Gas Station located at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 9J.

Police say the unnamed driver of the vehicle informed them that he was concerned for his passenger who recently called him and stated that she was returning to the Stockport Bridge on foot.

Police returned to the bridge and found a distraught unnamed 30-year-old Albany woman who officials say was making suicidal statements.

Authorities say the woman then climbed over the railing of the bridge. Troopers were able to pull her from the railing to safety.

The woman was placed in custody without further incident and transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital for an evaluation.
