Hudson Valley Nursing Home Counselor Sentenced for Sexually Abusing 6 Patients
A former Hudson Valley nursing counselor received a significant prison sentence for sexually abusing six patients with traumatic brain injuries.
On Friday in Ulster County Court, 50-year-old Jacky Stanley of Kingston, a former employee of Northeast Center for Special Care in Lake Katrine, was sentenced to 46 years in prison.
“These were heinous acts of abuse targeting residents already suffering from traumatic, life-changing injuries,” Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said in a press release. “My office recommended a significant sentence based on the defendant’s proven pattern of sexual abuse. We applaud the bravery of the victims who came forward to bring the defendant to justice."
In May, Stanley was convicted for sexually abusing six residents at the facility. All were at the facility for rehab after suffering traumatic brain injuries.
All six testified in court about Stanley’s abuse.
Northeast is one of the largest rehabilitation centers in the country, specializing in acquired traumatic brain injury. Northeast offers care and rehabilitation to individuals who have suffered traumatic brain injuries caused by stroke, motor vehicle accidents, falls and other catastrophic events.
Stanley was employed as a counselor at Northeast and was responsible for helping new residents acclimate to the center. His duties as a counselor included managing the residents’ social environment and ensuring that residents participated in their required programs.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, between July 2014 and February 2015, Stanley used his position to gain access to the residents and forcibly performed sex acts on them, including oral sex on three victims, one who was asleep at the time.
