A Hudson Valley man puts his undefeated professional mixed martial arts record on the line this weekend, on live TV, not far from the local area.

This Saturday, 26-year-old Shane “Hurricane” Burgos of Monroe battles Godofredo Pepey during the UFC on Fox 25 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island.

The 145 pound featherweight who fights out of Monroe and trains in New Windsor is 9-0 in his professional career with four wins by knockout, four by submission and five first-round finishes.

“I think I match up good with everybody,” Burgos told MMA News. “I think if you don’t think you can beat everybody, you’re in the wrong sport. I’m going to climb the ladder one fight at a time and show everybody what I’m about.”

Burgos’s rising MMA career came by a bit of luck, or maybe fate. After seeing a fight on TV he was hooked and looked up some local gyms. He soon realized that one, Tiger Schulmann’s, was just 10 minutes from his Hudson Valley home, reports Flocombat.

Pepey enters the fight with a 4-1 record. Many are predicting Burgos to win by a first-round knockout; however Burgos isn’t taking his opponent lightly.

“I think Pepey is a dangerous fighter who is always looking for the finish. I respect his style but believe my pressure, along with my boxing and takedown defense, will be too much for him,” Burgos told UFC.

The UFC on FOX 25 card will air Saturday on Fox at 8 p.m., though the TV bout order hasn’t been announced.
