A Hudson Valley man ended up in a rocky situation, that cost him $400.

On Friday, September, 21, 2018, the Sullivan Valley Sheriff's Office received a report that a scam had taken place at the Citgo gas station in Rock Hill.

A man reported being approached by a man selling a brand new television in a sealed box. The victim gave the man $400, but when he reached his destination and opened the box, he found that it was weighed down with rocks, and contained no TV.

A short time later, the victim spotted the scammer at the Trading Post in Rock Hill. When he approached him, he drove off. The victim was able to get the license plate number of the vehicle.

The police tracked the vehicle back to New Jersey and with the help of the Belleville Police Department, got the suspect to surrender at the Sheriff’s Office in Monticello on Wednesday September 26, 2018.

Jonathan Kimball, 37, of Belleville, NJ with Fraudulent Accosting and Criminal Nuisance 2nd degree, both Misdemeanors. Kimball was also charged with the violation of peddling without a license under the Town of Thompson Local Law.

He was released on bail, and is schedule to return to court at a later date.
