Hudson Valley Man Jailed For Attempting to Kill Mother

A Hudson Valley man who used an SUV to try and run over his mother, in her home, received a lengthy prison sentence.

On May 28, 2015, 52-year-old Vincent Ryan Jr. of Bloomingburg attempted to kill his mother by driving his 2005 Chevy Tahoe into his mother’s home while she was inside the home.

Ryan drove to his childhood home, spotted his mother inside, aimed the rear of the vehicle in her direction, placed his vehicle in four wheel drive and floored the SUV towards his mother and the home, officials say.

The SUV broke through the wall into the downstairs basement living room and pinned Ryan’s mother underneath the vehicle. Ryan’s mother suffered serious physical injury, including lacerations to her head, a fractured sternum, and a compound fracture of her leg. She was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center for life saving treatment. She is still dealing the effects from her injuries.

According to the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office, when interviewed by State Police, Ryan admitted to wanting to kill his mother.

This actually wasn’t the first time Ryan drove a car into his mother’s home. In Dec. of 2012, he crashed his vehicle into the same house. No one was home at the time. Ryan was found guilty of criminal mischief and sentenced to probation. An order of protection was issued directing Ryan to stay away from his parents.

In April, Ryan was found guilty by a jury for attempted murder, assault, criminal mischief and aggravated criminal contempt.

On Monday, Ryan was sentenced to 25 years in state prison and five years of post-release
