A Hudson Valley man pleaded guilty to shooting a retired local police officer multiple times.

Monday, in Westchester County Court, 35-year-old Taqiy Walton, of Elmsford pleaded guilty to assault, attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

On July, 13, 2015, a retired Greenburgh police officer was mowing his lawn when he spotted a car in the driveway of a home across the street that he knew was empty.

The victim, along with his son, a current Greenburgh police officer went over to investigate. At that time, two men, including Walton emerged from the house. The victim and his son questioned why they were there.

As the pair turned to leave, Walton fired a semi-automatic pistol towards them. The retired police officer was hit twice, in his torso and arm.

Both defendants then fled the area in a car. The victim’s son was able to take down the license plate of the fleeing car.

An extensive pursuit took place involving several police department. Soon Walton and the unnamed other man were arrested by Yonkers Police on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers.

The next day, a K-9 from the New York State Police located the pistol not far from where Walton was arrested.

The co-defendant pleaded guilty to burglary on June 27.

Walton faces a maximum of 25 years in prison when he’s sentenced in Jan.
