A Hudson Valley man was charged with killing his mother.

In Westchester County Court, 27-year-old Andre Coverdale was arraigned on charges of 2nd-degree murder and 3rd-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felonies.

According to the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, on January 16, 2016, Coverdale walked up to a security booth at 2 Schroeder Street in Yonkers and told the security officer that “he had just killed his mother.” Coverdale requested the guard to call the police.

When Yonkers Police arrived on the scene, the defendant was still waiting at the guard booth.

Coverdale allegedly told the officers that his mother, Dawne McCray, was located in apartment 225 at the complex. When police officers entered the apartment, they found the victim stabbed to death in her bed.

The alleged murder weapon, a knife, was found on a window sill in the living room.

Officials say McCray died from multiple stab wounds to the face and neck involving a carotid artery and jugular veins resulting in massive bleeding.

Coverdale plead not guilty.

He was remanded to Westchester County Jail. He is due back in court on May 11.
