A Hudson Valley man confessed he was driving highly intoxicated when he caused a head-on crash that killed a young local man.

On Tuesday in Orange County Court, 32-year-old Dennis Wilson, Jr. of Walden pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide in connection with a head-on drunken crash that killed another driver.

Wilson admitted that he was driving drunk in in the Town of Montgomery around 12:11 a.m. on March 4.

Wilson admitted that at the time of the crash his blood alcohol content was .20%

Jason G. Exley, 28, of Walden was killed in the crash. Friends of the Exley family setup a GoFundMe page to help the family deal with their tragic loss.

“I know the family could use and would appreciate our help immensely,” Breanna Chittum wrote on the GoFundMe page. “Jason, you will be missed dearly.”

As of this writing, over $15,000 has been raised.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office will recommend Wilson be sentenced to six to 18 years in prison.

“Fatalities caused by those who drive while intoxicated are as preventable as they are tragic,” District Attorney Dave Hoovler said. “Anyone who takes an innocent life by making the conscious decision to risk the lives of those who use our roads, as well as their own life, by driving while intoxicated deserves lengthy incarceration.”

According to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office the court stated that it would not sentence Wilson to more than five to 15 years in prison when Wilson is sentenced in February.
