Two ice cream stands from the Hudson Valley were named the top two ice cream shops in "upstate New York."

NewYorkUpstate.com ranked the top 35 ice cream stands in upstate New York. The website tells Hudson Valley Post they consider anything above Rockland County as "upstate."

The website used Yelp to help determine their list. To qualify, the business must be listed in the "Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt" category on Yelp.

"'Best' is measured using an algorithm that looks at the number of reviews, star rating for a business, length of time a business has been opened, among other things, Ben Axelson wrote. "Number of negative (1, 2 and 3 star) reviews are also a significant factor, and may give a restaurant with fewer total reviews a higher ranking than a restaurant with the same star rating and a higher number of reviews."

Out of 35 ice cream stands, Alleyway Ice Cream in Ulster County placed second. The ice cream stand located at 135 Partition Street in Saugerties has 5 stars and 53 reviews.

Bellvale Farms Creamery in Warwick is hailed as the best ice cream stand in all of upstate New York, according to NYup.com. The shop at 1390 Route 17 A has received 213 reviews and 4.5 stars on Yelp.

Two years ago, Hudson Valley Post researched Yelp for the best ice cream shops in the Hudson Valley. Bellvale, which has been called "one of the top 10 ice cream places in America," topped that list as well.

The Warwick creamery produces homemade ice cream, waffle cones, ice cream cake, and ice cream pies.
