Did you know eavesdropping is a crime? Not only a crime, but a felony? Yeah, we didn't either.

So imagine our surprise when we come across a press release from the New York State Police announcing the arrest of a Sullivan County man for just that. A 33-year-old from Bloomingburg is in serious trouble for allegedly using an electronic device to overhear conversations between other family members.

(So you know how you sneak the iPhone out at the kitchen table to Snapchat your mom's Obama or Trump rants to your brother? Maybe stop doing that.)

In all seriousness, the 33-year-old from Bloomingburg is accused of making a habit of illegally recording his family. Police said he used a hidden electronic monitor to listen in on his kin's conversations without their consent.

Somebody in the family must have caught on to his alleged snooping habits, because he was arrested Thursday by New York State Police from the Wurtsboro barracks.

He was arraigned in Town of Mamakating Court and released with an order to appear in court again on Friday.
