Okay, Facebook users. We need to have a talk.

This happens every couple of months and you'll be getting messages and seeing statuses on your timeline and you'll probably get annoyed, like I already am.

At some point last week I started to see Facebook statuses pop up about Facebook accounts getting "hacked" and duplicate friend request. Then I received a Facebook message that went like this:

Hi....I actually got another friend request from you which I ignored so you may want to check your account. Hold your finger on the message until the forward button appears...then hit forward and all the people you want to forward too....I had to do the people individually. PLEASE DO NOT ACCEPT A NEW friendship FROM ME AT THIS TIME.

ABC7 NY is reporting that what you're seeing in your messages is a hoax. They spoke to Facebook and were told "Officials said your account is not sending out duplicate friend requests. And you didn't receive a request from the person you're forwarding it to."

They even checked in with branches of Homeland Security to confirm the messages were a hoax.

How do we make it stop? Easy, ignore the messages.Don't copy and paste it and message it to your friends.

Again, this Facebook hoax is different than what happened last year ABC 7 says "This message is different from the cloning epidemic that hit Facebook last year. Those instances were real and people do still get hacked."

So, if you're reading this don't feel bad. You're not the only one who got plays. Just know your Facebook is safe.
