You can help a Hudson Valley police officer as he fights for his life.

In September 2016, Michael Schmidt, “Mo,” was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, according to a GoFundMe page set up by family. The disease has no cure, but its progression can be slowed.

For the past 10 years Schmidt as served the Hudson Valley as a deputy for the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department. He has also worked as the Youth and Adult Officer for Putnam County and a dispatcher for the Town of Carmel Police Department.

The father of three young children has been undergoing one to three aggressive chemotherapy sessions a day, to fight the blood cancer related to lymphoma and leukemia.

“Michael’s skeletal and immune systems have already been compromised as he suffers from severe inflammation, vasculitis, Rheumatoid arthritis, anemia, and bone loss,” the GoFundMe page writes.

In the near future, Schmidt is scheduled to have a bone marrow transplant.

The GoFundMe page has been setup to help Michael and his wife, Sara, offset the costs of medical bills.
