Have you spotted the thin blue line, between a double yellow line, in the Hudson Valley? Do you know what it means?

If you haven’t driven past it yet, the 300 foot blue line can found in the middle of Gardnertown Road in front of the Town of Newburgh Police Department.

The thin blue line is a symbol used by law enforcement in the United States and Canada to commemorate the fallen and to show support for living law enforcement officers. The blue line is also meant to symbolize the relationship of officers with the communities they protect.

The blue line in the Town of Newburgh was suggested by Councilman Scott Manley. Supervisor Gil Piaquadio and the Town Board felt it would be a great way to show support to not just the Town of Newburgh police, but to all law enforcement.

"All law enforcement officials who see this line should know that the overwhelming majority of residents of this town appreciate your service and dedication to keep the peace,” Supervisor Piaquadio stated. “Know that when you see this line that you are not alone or without support"

On Facebook, the Town of Newburgh PBA thanked officials for the blue line.

“We are very grateful and thank the Town for the blue line,” Detective Douglas Scott, President Town of Newburgh Patrolman's Benevolent Association, wrote. “Your valued support is classy and very appreciated.”
