A Georgia man with an active warrant is accused of attempting to steal cars at a Hudson Valley auto repair shop.

Town of Kent Police received a call from an employee of Metric Motors who said a number of vehicles in the parking lot were entered and items were thrown around. He also noticed pry mark damage on the outside of the building.

Shortly after the call, authorities were dispatched to a gas station at the intersection of Route 52 and Lundingonville Road for a report a suspicious male outside the building.

Responding officers found 28-year-old Dennis Nance near the gas station. A background check showed he had an active warrant out from Georgia for a parole violation.

Police say as they investigated further, they allege Nance is the man who was involved in the attempted burglary at Metric Motors.

Nance was charged with attempted burglary and 2 counts of criminal mischief. He was arraigned in Kent Town Court and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond. He is due back in court on August 15.
