A fire at the Hudson Valley Sausage Company is under investigation.

The fire, which took place early Monday morning, was contained to the smoker room and was put out in minutes. Mark Elia, the owner of the Highland based company, said the smoker was not on at the time of the fire but a malfunction in the gas valve could be responsible.

Elia said the smoker was destroyed with the possibility that other equipment was also internally damaged. A full damage report won’t be known until the business is professionally examined.

Elia said he hopes to the have Hudson Valley Sausage Company retail store back up and running in a few weeks. It will likely take two to three months for their wholesale business to be functioning.

There’s been no word on how this will effect Hudson Valley Sausage Company products sold at many local Adam’s locations.

“No one was hurt. We were very lucky, it could have been so much worse,” Elia wrote in a Facebook post.

Elia thanked the Highland Fire Department for their quick response that helped save the building located at 85 Vineyard Avenue in Highland. He’s also thanking other residents who reached out with their thoughts and support in his families’ difficult time.
