Eugene E. Stockholm, 95, in his 96th year, passed away peacefully at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, on March 12, 2017. He was born August 26, 1921 in Patchogue, NY, to the late Frank and Sophie (Schumacher) Stockholm. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1938, and we to enlist in the U.S. Navy, where he served his country proudly for 7 years. He rose to the rank of Chief Fire Control on the light cruiser Montpelier, and fought in 14 major battles. In 1948 he met Dorothy (Wright) and they were married in 1952. Eugene worked at IBM, for almost 40 years before retirement. Once he retired he enjoyed it to the fullest. He could often be found on the golf course, or spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy. Their one son, Gene Stockholm of Irmo, South Carolina, and many loving nieces and nephews. In keeping with Eugene’s wishes there will be no formal services.
Donations may be made to the Pediatric Unit of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
