Police in Dutchess County saved a man’s life from a possible heroin overdose.

Saturday evening around 8:20 p.m., East Fishkill Police responded to a business in Fishkill Plains for a report of a 35-year-old man chocking.

Upon arrival police were met by met by East Fishkill Rescue Squad members and Mobile Life Paramedics. It was quickly determined that the man was not choking but had stopped breathing and was likely suffering from a heroin overdose.

Emergency officials began rescue breathing with a bag mask as Officer Tina Amorim prepared her Narcan kit, which paramedics gave to the victim.

Within minutes the unnamed man was conscious and sitting up. Officials say evidence of heroin use was located at the scene. The man was taken to Poughkeepsie hospital for more treatment.

This marks the second time in recent days that local police saved a life due to reported potential heroin overdoes. Police from Wallkill also recently used Narcan to revive a 26-year-old.
