A Dutchess County man who admitted to stealing $225,000 from an Orange County bank is going to serve a number of years in prison.

In Orange County Court, 27-year-old was sentenced to 16 years in state prison and five years post release supervision, in connection with the August 24, 2015 armed robbery of the Hudson Heritage Federal Credit Union in the City of Newburgh.

According to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, De Jesus, along with another unidentified man, waited outside the Hudson Heritage Federal Credit Union until the first two employees arrived to open the building. De Jesus and his accomplice displayed a gun and a knife, which they exchanged between them at different times during the robbery.

The pair ordered the employees to let them inside the credit union. Once inside, De Jesus made his way to the vault and took around $225,000.

A car driven by a third person was waiting outside and took off with De Jesus and his accomplice inside the vehicle.

After an extensive and long police investigation, De Jesus was arrested Town of Fishkill Police on December 17, 2015.

De Jesus pleaded guilty to robbery on Jan. 10. He was also ordered to pay back the money in restitution.

“The community will be safer during the sixteen years that this defendant is in prison,” Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler stated. “The repeated threatening of innocent employees or customers at financial institutions cannot be tolerated and those who engage in such crimes deserve long state prison sentences.”
