Donor Pledges $1 Million to Build Home for Elderly Sisters

A donor has pledged a $1 million challenge to help build a home for elderly Hudson Valle sisters.

The Sisters Oblates to the Blessed Trinity, developed the idea to raise $2 million to build a 20-room assisted living home in the Hudson Valley. The sisters donated a large plot of land on their property in Hopewell Junction for the facility.

The group's dream has taken a big step forward thanks to an anonymous donor.

The unnamed donor is offering to match other donations dollar for dollar up to $1 million.

"If we raise the other million, we will be able to build the facility," Angela Russo, a long-time friend of the sisters said in a press release. "The nuns give so much into the communities they serve. It's the sisters who model God's call to serve others. It's the sisters who give us affordable, quality education. It's the sisters who organize food pantries in our communities and visit the sick and imprisoned. Now it's our turn to help them!"

The Million Dollar Challenge will run until December 31, donors have up to five years to complete their contributions. Donors may give gifts of securities, cash, retirement plan assets, and in some cases, real estate or other property.
