Two Dutchess County coyote hunters were ticketed.

Recently, while on patrol in Dutchess County a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officer noticed a pickup truck parked in the Lafayetteville Multiple Use Area parking lot.

Soon, the officer noticed the truck was gone, leaving fresh tire tracks in the snow through a field.

When the truck returned, the officer stopped the truck and found two people who allegedly said they were looking for coyotes and planned on hunting them that night.

The officer allegedly found two loaded rifles inside the truck. The passenger said it was his first-time hunting and that he thought, incorrectly, it was acceptable to have a round chambered, police say.

Both unnamed hunters were issued a ticket for having a loaded gun in a motor vehicle.
