A large CSX freight train derailed Tuesday afternoon in Newburgh. According to a statement from CSX, the incident occurred at approximately 3:30 in the area of River Road near the New Windsor town line.

There are hazardous materials on board the train but there are no reports of spillage at this time. However this is a confirmed fuel leak from one of the train’s locomotives.

The train was making its way from upstate New York to Waycross Georgia. It consists of three CSX locomotives and a total of 77 freight cars. 38 of the attached cars are carrying a payload while 39 are completely empty. The cargo on board includes cardboard, corn oil and glass products. Several of the cars also contain sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide.

CSX has dispatched personnel to the scene and will be providing more information as it becomes available. A cause for the crash could not be determined at this time. As of now, no injuries have been reported.
