New York is a liberal state, but just how liberal?

Utah was the first state in the country to legalize free-range parenting. According to ABC, the law was put into effect on Tuesday, March 27 by the state's Governor. This law redefines what neglect legally means, and allows kids to partake in unsupervised activities without parents being charged.

The unsupervised activities that kids will be able to participate in include walking to school alone, waiting in a car alone, play outside, or walk outside alone. According to the article, authorities will not be able to investigate parents who allow their kids to do these things alone.

Could this law come to New York? Currently, New York State defines child neglect as "the failure of a parent or caretaker to provide needed food, clothing, shelter, medical care, or supervision to the degree that the child’s health, safety, and well-being are threatened with harm."

Technically, New York does not define letting your kid play outside as neglect. So maybe free range parenting could come to the state. For now, we will be a closed-range parenting state.
