Cornelius M. “Neil” Benedict, a Newburgh Resident, Dies at 86

Cornelius M. "Neil" Benedict, 86, of the Town of Newburgh, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at home surrounded by his family.

The son of the late Alonzo R. and Maybelle M. (Marius) Benedict, Cornelius was born on December 29, 1930 in the Town of Newburgh, NY.

Neil was a retired carpenter and locksmith for the Newburgh Enlarged School District. Earlier in his life he worked as a color matcher for Dupont/Stauffer Chemical. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was an avid outdoors-man.

In addition to his loving wife, Roxie G. (Lauber) Benedict survivors include children: Darrell A. Benedict and his wife, Robin of Newburgh; Roxann L. Giordano and her husband, Dominick of New Windsor, Duane A. Benedict and his wife, Susan of Newburgh and Derek N. Benedict and his wife, Barbara of Newburgh and Dr. Rae T. Benedict of Decatur, GA. He is also survived by eight beloved grandchildren; Dara Kopaskie and husband, Aaron, Cody Benedict, Alyssa Giordano, Jeremey Benedict, Tyler Giordano, Dillon Benedict, Dustin Benedict and Hayley Benedict; two great grandchildren, Savannah Collins and Addison Kopaskie, as well as many nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, Neil was predeceased by six brothers and three sisters and his son, Kevin R. Benedict in December of 1956.

Visitation for friends and family will take place on Sunday, September 17th from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at White, Venuto and Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, 188 North Plank Road (Route 32) Town of Newburgh.

A funeral service will commence at 11:00 am on Monday September 18th at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh, NY.
