Claire Silverman Asher of Newburgh, NY died peacefully on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at St. Luke’s Cornwall, Newburgh Campus surrounded by her family. She was 88 years old.
Claire was born in Kingston, NY, November 2, 1929, the daughter of the late Ben Silverman and Celia Weber Silverman.
Claire was a graduate of Utica College with an associates degree in Business Management. On September 4, 1949, she married her loving husband, Joseph Asher.
Claire was a retired controller for Hudson Valley Lighting having worked there 22 plus years.
She was well known for her love of family, dancing, reading and dining out.
“I love you a bushel and a peck, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck; yes, I do, yes, I do!”
Claire was predeceased by her loving husband of 44 years, Joseph Asher, daughter, Diane Asher Ford, son in law Bruce Ford, sister, Shirley Berke and brother, Mark Silverman. She was also preceded in death by her companion, Cecil Mann on January 14, 2018.
She is survived by her son, Louis Asher and wife, Naomi Rodriguez Asher; grandchildren; Maura Ford Figueroa, Derek Ford, Raquel Rodriguez Asher, Gabrielle Rodriguez Asher and Jonathan Rodriguez Asher.
Great grandchildren Amare Figueroa and Cinque Figueroa, Jr. She is also survived by her sister, Renee Silverman Rosenblum and sister in law Lois Brickman Asher. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and great grand nieces and great grand nephews and a few friends
The family would like to thank Loretta Freitas for her wonderful care of Claire over the last two years; you have been beyond amazing in keeping our Mom/’White Hair’ Grandma home in her environment.
Funeral Services will be at Temple Beth Jacob on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow services at Big Rock Cemetery in the city of Newburgh.
