City of Newburgh Receives Central Hudson Grant

Broadway is shining a little brighter these days, at least in Newburgh it is, thanks to monies from Central Hudson. A ribbon cutting was held this week to celebrate the Broadway Corridor Enhancement Project funded, in part, by a $250,000 Main Street Revitalization grant awarded by Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation, made available through a $5 million Community Benefit Fund offered by the energy company’s parent, Fortis Inc.

The recently completed improvements were made along Broadway between Johnson and Liberty Streets. They focused on a three-block area and created a public green space, so that residents have an outdoor, multi-use recreational area; renovated a key historic building, as well as completed other enhancements to improve the curb appeal of the area.

According to Central Hudson, these improvements were made in partnership with The City of Newburgh, the Newburgh Community Land Bank, Pace University Land Use Law Center, Safe Harbors of the Hudson, and Central Hudson. Other towns throughout the Hudson Valley have also benefited from this grant program including Kingston, Poughkeepsie, and Wappingers Falls.
