A local chef is the latest Hudson Valley contestant to appear on the Food Network.

The episode of “Chopped” titled “Blue Plate Special” features modern diner chefs competing for $10,000. Arleen Harkins, the executive chef at The Historic Village Diner in Red Hook, was one of the contestants tasked with turning random ingredients into blue plate specials.

Harkins’ appearance on “Chopped” originally aired last week, but will be rerun this Thursday night at 9pm. We won’t spoil the results for you, but we can say that all of the chefs got very creative with the ingredients they were given in their baskets.

The Historic Village Diner on North Broadway in Red Hook is located in a genuine 1920s diner building complete with chrome and neon. Known for their delicious take on traditional diner food, visitors have made this classic diner a local landmark.

Harkins is not the first local chef to appear on “Chopped.” In 2015 Dafna Mizrahi, the executive chef of Monte’s in Amenia, won the show and was even asked back to compete in the tournament of champions.
