Like many people, I stocked up on flour around the holidays to prepare for the annual cookie baking marathon my family does. Now, I need to check my supply after a flour recall was issued by General Mills.

Though voluntary, consumers are encouraged to check for, and dispose of, five-pound bags of Gold Medal Unbleached Flour that has a use by date of April 20, 2020.  According to General Mills

The recall is being issued for the potential presence of Salmonella which was discovered during sampling of the five-pound bag product.  This recall is being issued out of an abundance of care as General Mills has not received any direct consumer reports of confirmed illnesses related to this product.

The side effects described as a result of salmonella don't sound enjoyable, at all, so my suggestion is to TOSS IT...immediately.

If you find that you have this product and dispose of it, next steps are to contact General Mills Consumer Relations via their website GeneralMills.com/Flour, or by phone at 1-800-230-8103.

The thing I really find strange about this whole recall, is the fact that General Mills mentions multiple times in their press release that flour "is not a ready to eat ingredient" and that "anything you make with flour must be cooked or baked before eating."

Are people regularly eating flour, like, from the bag? - Weird.
