Maybe you are part of the Sandwich Generation, someone who is raising their own children while also taking care of an aging parent. Maybe you are the grandparent raising your grandchildren as your own, the number of families in this position has been on the rise over the past few years. Maybe you are helping to care for a spouse or loved one who is very sick.

No matter which scenario describes your life, you are a caregiver. The challenges can be many and the stress can be tough to deal with and can really impact your own health. Being a caregiver isn’t easy and often you need support, but where do you turn?

If you live in Sullivan County, Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County’s Caregiver Resource Center is offering a free six-session program called ‘Powerful Tools for Caregivers’ on Mondays, starting August 20 and running through October 1.

Each session will be held from 2 to 4:00 at the Town of Mamakating Public Library on 128 Sullivan St. in Wurtsboro. Refreshments will be provided.  Two experienced leaders will help caregivers develop some tools to help them take care of themselves while they work to take care of others.

Topics like how to reduce stress, improve self-confidence, enhance communication during challenging situations, manage their emotions, making tough decisions, and more will be covered.

This is a great place to get information to help but space is limited and pre-registration is required. You can call  CCESC at 845-292-6180 or head to www.sullivancce.org.
