Unfortunately another school in our neck of the woods had to deal with a serious threat.

According a New York State Police press release, on Tuesday, February 27, State Police and the Town on Durham Police Department responded to a call about a threat of school violence.

It was reported to the officers that a 9th grade student at the Cairo-Durham High School had told other students that they could be in danger and that another student had a bullet in their possession.

After the information was obtained the school was placed in lockdown. The student was then taken into custody.

The 15 year old 9th grader is being charged as a juvenile delinquent. However, had the student been older they would have been facing charges of Making a Terroristic Threat which is a class d felony.

A Family Court Appearance ticket was issued to the student who was later released to his parents.

Several Hudson Valley schools have been placed on lockdown or closed all together in recent weeks due to threats of violence.

Just recently the City of Poughkeepsie School District closed all schools after a school shooting threat appeared on social media.

These threats come weeks after the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in Florida.
