A bridge that is often driven on in Dutchess County is closed for construction until at least October. Residents are concerned that the detour will increase their drive-time and put children at a local school at risk.

As of Wednesday, the New York State Department of Transportation has closed State Route 82 over the Spout Creek near in intersection of All Angels Hill Road. The closure is to replace the temporary bridge.

Commuters will likely see an increase in drive time as their routes will be detoured. Residents living in the immediately area will be the only ones allowed to drive near the construction. East Fishkill Police will be on the lookout for violators and police say they will be writing tickets.

The official detour is from Route 52 at Route 82 in Fishkill down to Palen Road (County Route 31) to Route 82 in Hopewell Junction, or in reverses.

Some residents are concerned that the detours will increase traffic near John Jay East Fishkill High School. Which could lead to problems, especially during arrival and dismissal and other times when students walk on roads near the school.

The construction project is scheduled to last until October.
