Many in the Hudson Valley are mourning the loss of a beloved police K9.

On Tuesday, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office sadly announced the passing of former patrol canine Beal Beal was born on July 9, 2007, and passed away over the weekend.

Beal was a member of the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit from July 2009 until his retirement in December 2012. He is described as being a "loyal and dutiful" part of the Ulster County Sheriff's Office.

"Beal had an extensive and productive career, including locating a large quantity of narcotics and was responsible for the seizure of thousands of dollars in cash," the Ulster County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook. "Beal also successfully located countless suspects and missing people during his short career. Beal was best remembered for his demonstrations in the community."

After his retirement, Beal enjoyed the rest of his life with retired deputy Tom Lattin in the state of Florida.

Beal’s name will be etched into the K-9 memorial stone at the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center.

"The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Beal for his years of dedicated and exemplary service to the citizens of Ulster County and members of this agency. He will be fondly missed and forever remembered," the Sheriff's Office said.
