A Beacon man is accused of repeatedly stabbing another man in Patterson.

On April 25th, 2017, Putnam County Sheriff's were dispatched to a residence in Patterson for a report of a physical altercation between two men.

When Sheriff's arrived at the residence, they found a 60-year old man outside bleeding heavily from multiple stab wounds to his torso.

With the victim were persons later identified as his girlfriend, his daughter, and his infant granddaughter.

The victim and other adults present told deputies that Patrick Murphy, 27, of Beacon stabbed the victim. At that point, Murphy exited the residence and was apprehended.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Danbury Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Sheriff's processed the crime scene, collected evidence, and interviewed witnesses. Investigators determined that Murphy and the victim knew each other. According to witnesses, Murphy was the aggressor in the incident.

Murphy was charged with:

  • Attempted Murder - Second-Degree (Class B Felony)
  • Assault - First Degree (Class B Felony)
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child

The child endangerment offense was charged because the violence occurred in the presence of the victim's infant granddaughter.

Murphy was arraigned and remanded to Putnam County Jail without bail to await a felony hearing scheduled for early next month.

If found guilty of the attempted murder and assault charges, Murphy could face up to 25 years' imprisonment on both charges.
