You say it to yourself all the time. I do it too. "This is the year I am going to do it!" Meaning that this is the year that I am going to go and tour Bannerman's Castle. What is that you ask? It is the 'castle' that you can see from the train when riding Metro North's Hudson Line to or from New York City.

The structure itself is called Bannerman's Castle. The island that it is on called Pollepel Island. You are able to tour the island and castle grounds May-October. The boat tours depart from Beacon, are approximately 2 1/2 hours and reservations are required. This version of the walking tour will cost about $35 and it is suggested that you wear comfortable shoes as the ground can be uneven in some spots. Plus, you should be able to comfortably climb stairs.

Feel more like taking your kayak out to the island for your tour? That is also possible. Kayak tours leave on select Saturdays and Sundays through the summer and start either in Cold Spring or in Cornwall.

So will this be the year that you will go ahead and do it? I am making my plans now.
