A Dutchess County man is accused of using a machete to rob a local Family Dollar.

On Sunday around 10:30, City of Poughkeepsie Police Headquarters received a call regarding a robbery in progress at the Family Dollar on Main Street.

Officers learned that a suspect, armed with a machete, entered the store while two employees were inside. The suspect allegedly locked one of the employees in a bathroom and forced the other employee to empty the safe and register of money.

The suspect then ran out the rear door to the business.

As authorities investigated, they identified 28-year-old Johnny White of Beacon as the suspect. Police did not elaborate how they determined White was the suspect.

On Monday around 6:50 p.m., City of Beacon police arrested White after conducting a traffic stop in Beacon.

City of Poughkeepsie police responded to the Beacon Police Department and took custody of White. White was charged with first-degree robbery, a felony.

White was arraigned at City of Poughkeepsie Court and was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on $150,000 cash or $300,000 bond.
