Just hours after he helped lead Army football to a victory, Brandon Jackson was killed in a car accident.

The academy announced Monday that 20-year-old Jackson, a sophomore from Queens, died Sunday morning following a single-car crash in Croton.

Jackson was a starting defensive back at Army. He recorded two tackles in the Black Knight’s win over Rice on Saturday.

"Words cannot describe the grief that our team is feeling over the loss of our brother and friend, Brandon," coach Jeff Monken stated. "He was a beloved teammate and our hearts are with his family at this time of tragedy."

ESPN reports, that Croton-on-Hudson police responded to reports a car crash around 1:50 a.m. Sunday. Arriving officers found a single car that collided into the guardrail. Jackson was still in the car. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Jacobs started 9 games as a freshman at Army. He finished 5th on the team with 62 tackles and led the Black Knights with three interceptions.

“We are heartbroken for Brandon's family, the team and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him," said Army West Point athletic director Boo Corrigan. “We will always remember Brandon for his kindness and do our best to honor his memory.”

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
