A Kingston man attacked a disabled person he was supposed to support and and protect, the Saugerties Police Department said.

John M. Walker, 28, faces six charges in connection with a series of attacks he allegedly committed against an adult resident of an Ulster-Greene ARC group home. Walker was a residential specialist at the facility, according to the press release issued by the Saugerties Police Department.

On June 6, Ulster-Greene ARC contacted Saugerties police to report the possible abuse of a client at the residential facility. The Saugerties Police Department's Detective Division conducted a 10-week investigation with the help of the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs.

Authorities said they discovered Walker had attacked and abused the resident on multiple occasions.

On Thursday, Walker was charged with felony endangering the welfare of a disabled person and five misdemeanors, including endangering the welfare of a disabled person, two counts of assault, menacing and harassment.

He was arraigned in the Town of Saugerties Court following the arrest and released on his own recognizance. He will appear in court again at a later date.
