Annual Blueberry Festival Returns to the Catskills
If you’re looking for something a bit different this weekend, how about a blueberry festival? What’s become an annual tradition in the village of Ellenville happens on the second Saturday in August. The Ellenville-Wawarsing Chamber of Commerce hosts the festival from 9am to 4pm. The blueberry festival and street fair will be on Canal Street and Liberty Square in the Village of Ellenville. There will be about 175 vendors from crafts, health, non-profit organizations and more. Plus blueberry pie baking contest, delicious blueberry goodies, tons of entertainment and even stuff for the kids. It’s free and open to the public. The annual blueberry pancake breakfast hosted by Pioneer Engine Company #1 begins at 7:30am. Add in some very special exhibits showcasing the Shawangunk Mountains and its cultural heritage. As they say in the announcements, the Ellenville Blueberry Festival has a little bit of something for everyone.
The annual blueberry events were designed as an annual family fun event. Why blueberry’s? It was once an industry that was important to the area and helped develop their culture.
