Adele K. Shargel, 93 of Cornwall, NY, entered into rest on January 27, 2018. The daughter of the late Louis and Lena (Pedlosky) Kornbluth, she was born August 9, 1924 in Newark, NJ. She married the love of her life, Alfred Shargel, on December 25, 1946 in Newark, NJ, and they were married for 33 years. Alfred predeceased Adele in 1979.

Adele was a graduate of Weequahic High School, Newark, NJ; received her Bachelor’s degree in Education, Montclair State College; and Master’s degree in Education, NYU. She was a retired high school teacher (38 years) for Newark Board of Education; and enjoyed a second career as a sales associate, Lord & Taylor, Livingston, NJ (25 years). She was a lifetime member of Hadassah, and served with Literacy Volunteers of America.

Adele touched and impacted the lives of countless people. After retiring from working for 63 years and moving to NY, she continued as a Literacy Volunteer and also volunteered at the Cornwall Hospital Gift Shop; she enjoyed giving her time and helping people whenever she could. She treasured spending time with family and friends and being a part of their lives. She enjoyed going to plays, concerts, reading, listening to music, playing Scrabble and keeping up with current events.

Survivors include her daughters, Judith Koss and husband Donald of Raleigh, NC, and Jane Reiss and husband David of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY; grandchildren, Everett Reiss and wife Ashley of Philadelphia, PA and Alison Koss of Raleigh, NC; great-granddaughter, Madeline Reiss; four nieces and one nephew. In addition to her husband Alfred, she was predeceased by her son, Lawrence Shargel, and sisters, Ruth Meisler and Sunya Levine.

A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Gill Lane, Iselin, NJ 08830.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Adele's memory may be sent to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties or American Cancer Society.
