An accident is causing serious backups this morning, as a portion of Route 55 remains closed.

According to Hudson Valley traffic reporter, Nancy Reamy, the eastbound lanes of a section of Route 55 in Poughkeepsie have been completely closed down due to an accident.

The incident happened on Route 55 at Noxon Rd. It's unclear how long the road will be closed, but Reamy says it may be for a while.  The backups continue to build and will most likely last throughout most of the morning commute on Thursday.

There are also considerable backups on Noxon Road, as well as rubbernecking delays on the westbound side of Route 55.

Drivers should take an alternate route this morning until the accident has been cleared up.
