Aaron Boone Named New Manager of the Yankees

Aaron Boone was formally named the new manager of the Yankees Wednesday.

The NY Daily News is reporting that Boone will become the 33rd manager of the Yankees. He will fill Joe Girardi's position, who managed the team for the past ten seasons. Boone, who has no coaching or managerial experience, beat other potential candidates such as Rob Thompson and the recently retired Carlos Beltran for the spot.

The 44-year-old Boone is a third-generation Major Leaguer, who is best known by Yankees fans for his home run in the 11th inning of Game 7 of the 2003 American League Championship against the Red Sox.

His lack of coaching experience may be a concern for some, but he has a lot of support from the Yankees front office as well as former teammates. He's considered well-liked and personable, plus having a father, brother, and grandfather who all played professionally really helps when it comes to knowing everything about the game.

Boone had worked as an analyst for ESPN since retiring from baseball in 2004.
